The Israel-Palestine conflict is a long-standing and complex dispute over territory, history, and national identity. It primarily revolves around the land that is now Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. The conflict dates back to the late 19th century when Jewish immigrants began to settle in the region, then under Ottoman rule.

The major events and phases of the conflict include the Balfour Declaration in 1917, which expressed British support for a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine. This declaration laid the foundation for Jewish immigration and eventual statehood.

After World War II and the Holocaust, the United Nations approved the partition plan in 1947, which aimed to create separate Jewish and Arab states. This led to the first Arab-Israeli war in 1948-1949, resulting in the establishment of the State of Israel and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Arabs.

The conflict continued with subsequent wars and periods of violence, including the 1967 Six-Day War, which led to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. This occupation remains a contentious issue today.

Efforts for peace have been made over the years, including the Camp David Accords in 1978 and the Oslo Accords in the 1990s, which led to limited self-governance for Palestinians in parts of the West Bank and Gaza. However, a final and comprehensive peace agreement has remained elusive.

The conflict has led to numerous casualties and ongoing tensions. The issues at the core of the dispute include borders, the status of Jerusalem, the right of return for Palestinian refugees, and security concerns for both Israelis and Palestinians.

International efforts to resolve the conflict continue, but finding a solution that satisfies the aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians remains a challenging and sensitive task. The Israel-Palestine conflict is a deeply rooted issue with significant historical, religious, and political dimensions, and it continues to be a major source of instability in the Middle East.
